How Damon Braces Work
Damon Braces utilize a self-ligating system, which is a specialized slide mechanism that connects archwires to brackets, without the need for elastic ties. Advanced teeth braces without rubber bands allow teeth to move more freely and comfortably, reducing the pressure and friction that can slow down tooth movement.
Self-Ligating Vs. Traditional Braces
With traditional braces, the wires are attached to the braces by elastic ligatures or “o-rings”, which press the wires against the teeth. This contact requires much more pressure, and often discomfort, to move the teeth into the desired position.
Because Damon self-ligating braces have doors that hold the wires in place, slightly away from the teeth, they use less pressure and friction, resulting in a shorter treatment time for most cases.
The wires in traditional braces are manually shaped to fit your mouth, but Damon Braces use ‘memory wires’ that are flexible when inserted — as they heat up with your body temperature, they gradually return to their naturally straight state. This technology reduces discomfort for an easier tooth movement experience.
