Dr. Rick
Dr. Rick was raised in Auburn and graduated from Auburn High School. In college he decided to major in Zoology at BYU before attending dental school at Loma Linda University. While at Loma Linda University’s School of Dentistry he earned numerous awards for academic excellence and graduated in the very top of his class. Specifically he received the Academic Excellence Gold Award for finishing in the top 1% of the country on the National Board Dental Examinations and the American Academy of Oral and Maxillofacial Pathology award. He is also a member of Omicron Kappa Upsilon, the prestigious national dental honor society reserved for students who finish in the top 10% of their class.
After dental school he was invited to attend UCLA for his orthodontic residency, the same dental school his father Dr. Molen attended in 1968, and earned his specialty certificate in orthodontics and dentofacial orthopedics. Beyond his formal education he participates in numerous continuing education courses each year to enhance his education and stay on the cutting edge of new techniques and technologies.
Dr. Rick is also a member of several international invitation-only orthodontic study clubs. Along with Dr. Aaron he is one of less than half-a-dozen orthodontists in the United States that hold concurrent memberships in the prestigious Schulman Study Group, Pitts Progressive Study Club, and The Progressive Orthodontist’s elite Fully Engaged group. Since these groups are invitation-only, peer-vetted, and geographically exclusive it is a monumental accomplishment to be invited to maintain memberships, and actively participate in, all three groups. This accomplishment reflects the Molens’ highly regarded reputation within the orthodontic community as thought leaders and innovators.
Dr. Rick is a member of the American Dental Association, the Washington State Dental Association, the Seattle-King County Dental Society, the American Association of Orthodontists, the Washington State Society of Orthodontists, and the Pacific Coast Society of Orthodontists.
Dr. Rick met his amazing wife Amy while studying at UCLA. They have three beautiful daughters, Sophie, Mazie, and Aisley and a chocolate lab named Cocoa. Outside orthodontics Dr. Rick enjoys traveling, scuba diving, playing softball, officiating high school basketball, and spending time with his family. His friends describe him as honest, friendly, and an easygoing individual. He loves having the opportunity to practice orthodontics with both his father and younger brother.
