At Molen Orthodontics, we see a lot of patients over the age of 21 who are interested in Invisalign because they want to get a healthy smile while taking advantage of the discretion and convenience that has helped make Invisalign such a popular choice. If you’re wondering about whether as an adult, Invisalign is the right choice for you, here are some facts that should help to shine some light on why this option might be just what you’re looking for!
Adult Invisalign: Clearly a Discreet Option
We know that most adults who are considering orthodontic treatment look for an option that won’t draw any extra attention to their mouths or cause any further insecurity about their smile—especially if a cosmetic issue is why they’re beginning treatment in the first place.
Invisalign is made from a completely clear, smooth, BPA-free plastic that is resistant to stains. Each thin tray fits your teeth snuggly which makes them easy to get used to. Since they’re made of a see-through material they are very difficult to notice. In fact, you might find that it’s just you and Dr. Molen who know you’re undergoing treatment!
Convenient and Easy to Maintain
Invisalign gives adults the freedom to pursue treatment without the traditional brackets and wires that are the key components of traditional braces. Instead, Invisalign uses a series of progressively straighter aligner trays that are worn 22 hours a day for a few weeks each just like a retainer.
Invisalign trays should be removed for mealtimes or snacks and when you’re drinking anything other than water. You can remove them to thoroughly brush and floss three times a day, and, as long as you’re wearing them for the recommended 22 hours a day, you can even briefly remove them for special occasions, like family photos or other special occasions.
Costs Associated with Adult Invisalign
Adult Invisalign and braces are similarly priced. The cost of any orthodontic treatment depends on case complexity and each patient’s desired outcomes. If you are wondering about cost, we’ve created a helpful Online Payment Calculator. You can instantly see the average costs of treatment and what you could expect for regular payments.
Length of Treatment with Invisalign
Treatment with Invisalign is comparable to braces: more complex issues will take longer than simpler ones, but average treatment time is between 12 to 24 months.

My dentist recently told me that I should consider getting either braces or Invisalign. Personally, I prefer the clearer option, but I am worried about the maintenance that it may require. I like that the Invisalign option will basically be like wearing a retainer and that it can be removed. However, what type of work needs to be put in to keep the aligners from being stained?
Faylinn, thank you for your comment. Invisalign is a great option for those that don’t want the traditional braces with wires/brackets. Although you might be amazed at how nicely the clear Damon brackets look and how they can disappear on the tooth. To answer your question, with Invisalign you do have to be careful when drinking colored beverages. However, the minor adjustment in what or how you consume these is nothing in comparison to watching your smile transform. Would you like one of our treatment coordinators to call you with more detailed information about our clear options? They have a wealth of knowledge!
I like that the time of treatment really depends on your situation. It is good to know that it is around the same time period as regular braces. Ultimately it comes down to your personal preference.
I like how you mentioned that Invisalign trays can be removed for brushing and flossing. I’ve been thinking about getting braces so I can improve my smile and self-confidence, but I’ve been worried that having brackets and wires in the way will make it hard for me to keep my teeth clean. Maybe I could use Invisalign instead so I don’t have to worry about anything hindering my ability to properly brush and floss.
