I always think “good for you” to those adults finally getting time to invest in themselves. There is nothing wrong with fixing something that is within your means in order to feel better about yourself. Having braces as an adult can be uncomfortable, but here are some survival tips and tricks.
Avoid coffee & soda – Zip Fizz and Spark are good alternatives
It’s easy to fall into your daily routine drinking your morning coffee. As an adult we need to break this habit. With braces, coffee and soda can give your teeth discoloration around your brackets. You can still drink these; however, it is not a good option. If you do decide to drink these, just make sure to thoroughly brush your teeth after so that your mouth stays healthy and your smile stays bright.
A Sonicare toothbrush and the Air Flosser will be your best friend
The Sonicare toothbrush helps hard to reach places, improves gum health and 22% more plaque removal. Using this after every meal is ideal.
An Air Flosser cleans an entire mouth in 60 seconds at the touch of a button. It is also clinically proven as effective as string floss for gum health. This is the perfect tool to clean in between brackets and wires without the hassle of using floss and a floss threader, not to mention it’s much faster & much more fun.
Pipe cleaners or platypus picks will also help you clean tough to reach places. These are good to keep handy in your purse or car. You can purchase them at Albertsons or on Amazon here!
Ice water and smoothies help soothe swollen gums
The wires on your braces are heat sensitive and cool drinks can help soothe swollen gums or sensitive teeth. There are a variety of different smoothie recipes you can find online.
